Day 101::August 16, 2010

Does anyone have an all time favorite movie?  My all time favorite is The Princess Bride.  There's adventure, comedy, romance, good guys, bad guys, "fencing, fighting, torture, revenge, giants, monsters, chases, escapes, true love, and miracles".  I could probably watch this over and over and never get tired of it.

Yesterday I showed a clip from this movie in Sunday School.  I showed it because of the great picture it paints of when a person comes to know Christ.  There is a scene in the movie where Princess Buttercup realizes something she never saw before and responds to it.  After gaining insight to the "big picture" her whole world changes.  She cannot help but change.  Her mindset must different.  That is how it is when someone truly meets Christ.  They change.  They change from the inside out and their entire outlook on life must be renewed.  What we've seriously got to realize is that life is not about us.  We are pieces in God's greater story (History) where he, in the end, brings himself all the glory.

Through Christ's redemptive work on the cross, we are able to live eternally with God in Heaven if we recognize the bigger picture.  We are sinners, unable to get to God on our own terms.  Nothing we can do is good enough.  It's what Christ did that reconciles us to him.  Through the Holy Spirit's draw in our lives, we are able to respond to this gospel and Christ saves us from an eternity separated from him.  One of my new favorite quotes is this, "Christ doesn't save people because they are awesome.  He saves people because HE is awesome."

Are you a different person than you once were?  Have you seen the bigger picture?
