Day 8::May 15, 2010

Today I got to spend time in my favorite city with some of my favorite people.  We got up this morning and headed to downtown Nashville to walk around and enjoy the day.  While we were there we saw some of the flood damage.  Jarrod told us how high some of the waters were and I was blown away!  In the picture below, he explained that the water rose to the second floor of most of the buildings (nearest the river) and only the top part of the red structure (left) could be seen.

For lunch we enjoyed BBQ on an outdoor patio at Rippy's.  We also got to spend time in a few of the shops.  I mostly enjoyed the Gruhn guitar store because they had they had hundreds of guitars, banjos, mandolins, basses ect. on display.  Some were new and some were REALLY old.  I think Doug also had fun there because he got to teach me several interesting facts about the instrument that he loves so much.  I even spotted a $13,000 guitar... that's as much as my car cost!!!

Love y'all and thanks for catching up today!

Day 7::May 14, 2010

We haven't seen the flood damage of Nashville yet, but perhaps we'll see them tomorrow.  Today, Doug and I drove to visit Jarrod & Susie Beth for the weekend.  They are expecting the arrival of their first baby in about two months!  I loved getting to see little Julia's nursery.

For dinner, we ate at the famous Noshville Delicatessen

After dinner Jarrod & Susie took us to Nashville's version of Yogurt Mountain - Menchie's!  For any of you who know my love for Yogurt Mountain, you know how excited I was about trying a new frozen yogurt bar.

A wall of yogurt... yes please!!

Thanks to all of you who have been giving me recipes over the last few days!  I think I like the idea of swapping old family favorites.  Maybe again next week.

Love y'all & thanks for reading!

Day 6::May 13, 2010

Today I had two exciting purchases!  Exciting for me anyhow.

I'm really hoping that this will work in our living room!

Goat Cheese!!  Fried Green Tomatoes with goat cheese will hopefully be in my near future.  YUM!

Does anyone have any good recipes for FGTs with goat cheese?  If so, I'll make you a deal.  You give me a recipe and I'll give you one!

Day 5::May 12, 2010

What do you do with 10 pounds of strawberries?  Today's big project (alongside the wonderful Virginia) consisted of researching, prepping, and vacuum sealing.  Thanks to several of you, I also have a great collection of recipes that I'll have to try out over the next few weeks!  I am most looking forward to Mrs. Jennings' strawberry trifle...sounds delicious.

Several hours later, I met up with my Sunday School class at Hannah's house to bake cookies for a sweet family who lost their daughter this past weekend.  Kim and I have the most thoughtful girls.

Baby Malin even came along to help!

After cookies I had a LATE lunch and headed to the church for Wednesday night youth group.  Doug did a FANTASTIC job teaching from the book of Matthew about what it means to live the Word.

Day 4::May 11, 2010

Our good friends, Justin and Virginia, are very inspiring.  They have already inspired us to grow our own garden and we are now contemplating getting chickens so we can harvest our own eggs.  Today, Virginia and I decided to go pick strawberries!  We each picked two baskets.  Does anyone have any good ideas for how I should use these?  They look so good!

After picking strawberries I got a surprise visit from my Aunt and cousin!  They were passing through Birmingham on their way to Atlanta.  What a treat.  I am kicking myself for not taking a picture with them.

Day 3::May 10, 2010

I just LOVE the fresh, vibrant colors of spring!  Don't you?  Today I took some time and enjoyed the outdoors, right in my own backyard.  Although cool for the month of May, things are in full bloom and they could not be more beautiful!

Usually Doug gets the mail but today I decided I'd take a little walk across the road and get it myself.  Looks like I picked the right day to get the mail!  REAL SIMPLE!!!!  Love love love this magazine.

Almost 16 months ago Doug and I had our second date.  We had a picnic by a river and Doug brought me a rose, sweet tea, ice cream and shrimp alfredo.  Tonight, I recreated it!

After dinner we took a trip to Yogurt Mountain & Whole Foods!!  My favorite!

Day 2::May 9, 2010

Today Doug and I did some catching up on the TV show, Lost.  Since Doug quit watching the show after Season One aired several years ago, he decided to pick back up where he left off.  Today, thanks to Netflix: Watch Instantly, we're now about 1/4 the way through Season Two.

Today cannot go without mentioning all the fun I had after church.  After giving up the fight against ants in the house, I headed out into the backyard with Delia to have some fun.  While she roamed around, I cleared out weeds from a "weird area" in our yard.  I happened to find about 12 little crepe myrtle trees and a few pecan trees... surprise!  Delia and I also played chase and fetch with one of her favorite toys.  When I sat down, exhausted from running all over the yard, I exclaimed out loud, "I need a drink!"  Delia then ran to the pond and started lapping up water like it was going out of style.  She is one smart dog.

 Adorable.

Exhausted after a long day.
